Poetry #3: Run your Race!

"On your mark" He says (pause)
"Get set" He says (silence)
A whistle blare shocks me into awakening
My legs kick start...
left then right then left
my arms swinging from side to side
I begin to double up. I gain speed.
Am running...
Half way there now
the edges of my lips form a smile... a smirk
Flash backs of how I trained day and night with Him,
Raced with my heart and might...
"Practice pays off" I think
Then I look to my right just n time to see her speed past me
I look to my left and see another she approaching me
My smirk dies, turns to anger, frustration
fear begins to creep in. Am pushing harder now.
Harder than my capacity. Harder just to hear the word 'Winner' screamed at me
Harder so the people watching me can show their interest in me
then I feel a sharp pain in my right thigh. Immediately, I find myself falling... in slow motion...
As my legs give way I look at the finish line one last time... just a few feet away!
My body slumps hard on the racing track.
I scream.
Pain in my thigh... my heart.
I failed.
Tears stream down.
I feel defeated.
He comes to me, touches my pain...
He looks at me and says
"I gave you everything you needed to finish your race. The instant you looked away from the finish line, you lost."
